Each time you lend your hand to someone, you can feel the energy of that particular person. Every touch is a way of conversation, either conscious or unconscious. Through our hands we communicate about often forgotten human virtues like friendship, wisdom, faith, affability and love. That is my impression when observing the latest work collection of Milos Ilic, an artist who through multiplication of hands (his main artistic motive) as his specific artistic narration gives the answer to the social environment, to the alienation and the time in which we exist. At first sight he seems to paint realistic picture compositions through accuracy in forms and colour harmony where the world of numerous arms and hands dominates on the simple background. It is these hands that reveal to us the authentic universe of spiritual and mystical.
What secrets are kept hidden in Milos’ paintings? Some of his works are circular like the painting ‘’Oneironautics’’- lucid dreaming. They reveal to us a subject in which different races and personalities seem to be represented. We read them as symbols of unity and endlessness, which a circle basically is.
Although presented in different positions those arms speak to us about universal values of friendship and unity.
Harmonious unity, but in a different way, gives us the hand that is blessing and it is the central part of the horizontal composition called “The Connection”. It is the bond between interwoven arms and hands of different skin colour and personal features, like tattoos or rings.
Composition “The Predators” stands out with its affluence of colours and floral motives, hands emerging from exotic vegetation with skillfully embedded snakes, the sign of immortality and regeneration. One of the snakes at the top of the painting is in attack, mouth wide open aiming(darting) at one hand, while the other is lurking at the very bottom, making a balance with its peaceful posture.
The creation of Milos Ilic is layered because it sublimates life and mysticism, reality and dreams. Transposing hand speech in a unique way, this young artist points to openness and candor which all of us often miss.
